Nasser Mansi Zamalek apology shirt incident CAF Champions League

The Egyptian club striker apologized following his controversial celebration.

Egyptian club Zamalek striker Nasser Mansi has officially renewed his apology following a controversial celebration during their CAF Champions League football fixture against Rwandan APR FC. The player threw his jersey on the ground after scoring the winning goal on the opponent's pitch, an action deemed disrespectful by the club's technical staff and management, sparking significant discussion within African football circles.

The Apology and Context of the Shirt Incident

In an official statement published on his Instagram account on Monday, Nasser Mansi explained that his reaction occurred during a moment of intense emotional pressure on the pitch. However, the Zamalek forward acknowledged that this pressure does not justify such behavior in the professional world of football. He extended his apologies to the club's board of directors, the coaching staff led by Motamed Gamal, his teammates, and the loyal supporters, promising to refocus on helping the team moving forward.

Administrative Sanctions and Disciplinary Investigation

Following the incident, the coaching staff decided to suspend the Egyptian player from group training sessions and referred him for an internal disciplinary investigation. Prior to this suspension, the management had already imposed a heavy undisclosed financial fine on the forward. The club's football director, Abdel Nasser Mohamed, prepared a formal report for the legal department to oversee the ongoing proceedings against the athlete.

Upcoming Fixture and Future Decisions

Club officials will determine whether Nasser Mansi can return to regular training sessions based strictly on the outcome of the legal investigation. Meanwhile, the squad continues its preparations for upcoming regional and domestic commitments, hoping to put the recent controversy behind them as they pursue success in continental competitions.
