France Italy football: Bastoni recalls PSG Inter final nightmare

The Italian defender spoke out ahead of the match about the heavy Champions League defeat.

Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between the Italian national team and the French national team in the UEFA Nations League, Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni has opened up about one of the most painful memories of his professional football career. Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the match at the Stade de France, the center-back addressed the media about the upcoming fixture and his past setbacks.

The painful memory of the Champions League final

During the press conference, Bastoni was inevitably asked about the heavy 5-0 defeat suffered by the Italian club Inter Milan against the French club Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 Champions League final. The defender admitted that this evening left a lasting mark on his career, having faced stellar talents such as French forward Ousmane Dembélé and French midfielder Désiré Doué on that difficult night.

Looking forward to a positive outcome

Despite the bitter memory of that European failure, the Italian defender expressed strong optimism for the future of his national team. Bastoni emphasized that the Squadra Azzurra has learned valuable lessons from past experiences and hopes that this upcoming encounter against the French side will yield a completely different and much more favorable outcome for his squad.

Next crucial fixture

The Italian national team will face the French national team this Friday at 20:45 in Paris, marking Zinedine Zidane's highly anticipated debut as the new head coach of Les Bleus at the Stade de France.
