Morocco World Cup 2030 stadium budget allocation unveiled

Nearly two billion dirhams are dedicated for football stadium renovations in 2027.

Morocco is actively advancing preparations for the World Cup 2030 tournament by allocating significant financial resources for infrastructure upgrades. According to the regional investment distribution memorandum attached to the upcoming finance bill, Moroccan football venues designated for the global competition will benefit from approximately 1.977 billion dirhams in payment appropriations during the year 2027. This ambitious national effort highlights the country's commitment to delivering world-class sports facilities for the historic football event.

Global Cost and Sonarges Oversight

The total estimated cost for these extensive infrastructure projects reaches an impressive 23.765 billion dirhams. The National Company for the Construction and Management of Sports Facilities, known as Sonarges, oversees the entire execution of these developments. While the 2027 appropriations represent scheduled payments to cover ongoing construction expenses rather than additional funding outside the total cost, they demonstrate the steady financial momentum driving the tournament preparations forward.

Grand Stade Hassan II Leads the Investment

Among the six selected venues, the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane dominates the funding allocation. It is set to receive 889 million dirhams, accounting for roughly 45 percent of the total amount programmed for all six stadiums in 2027. With an anticipated capacity of around 115,000 spectators, this massive infrastructure project carries an overall estimated cost of 6.685 billion dirhams and stands as a primary candidate to host the prestigious World Cup final match.

Distribution Across Other Moroccan Stadiums

Beyond the Benslimane arena, financial resources are distributed among other key host venues across the nation. The Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat ranks second with 550 million dirhams, while the Grand Stade of Tangier receives 494 million dirhams. Together, these three major facilities account for 1.933 billion dirhams, representing about 98 percent of the total appropriations programmed for 2027. In contrast, allocations for the sports complexes in Fes, Marrakech, and Agadir remain modest, ranging between 14 and 15 million dirhams each, reflecting their respective project stages.

As preparations continue, the next major milestone will involve tracking the physical progress of these venues as construction advances toward the upcoming tournament deadlines.
