Arsenal injuries: Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi hurt in training

Manager Mikel Arteta described the double injury blow as far from ideal following the Premier League win over Leeds.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that defender Piero Hincapie and midfielder Martin Zubimendi sustained injuries during a post-match training session following the English football club's 2-1 Premier League victory against Leeds United at Emirates Stadium. The session was specifically organized for players who either did not feature or did not complete the full ninety minutes in order to maintain their match fitness.

The Incident During Post-Match Training

The unfortunate events unfolded on the pitch at Emirates Stadium after the final whistle. Ecuador international Piero Hincapie suffered a more serious ankle problem during a small-sided game and had to be carried off by substitute goalkeeper Illan Meslier. Meanwhile, Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi also picked up a knock during the same routine designed by the coaching staff to keep the squad sharp amidst a busy fixture schedule.

Mikel Arteta Reacts to the Double Blow

Speaking to the media ahead of their upcoming European fixture, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted that losing two players in unfortunate circumstances is far from ideal. The Spanish tactician defended his decision to hold the extra training session, explaining that it is essential for squad members to retain their rhythm and impact. He noted that without such sessions, players lack competitive sharpness when called upon during demanding stretches of the football calendar.

Next Fixture and Medical Evaluation

Both players will undergo further medical scans to determine the exact severity of their physical issues and establish a definitive recovery timeframe. The English club will need to manage their squad depth carefully as they prepare for their crucial upcoming Champions League match against French opponents Lille.
